What counts as a lottery, keno or bingo game?

These are the draw games of the casino: numbers come out of a machine or a random number generator, and the player wins if the draw matches the numbers or the card they bought. The family covers keno, bingo in its 75-ball, 90-ball and video formats, and lottery-style number draws that run every few minutes. They are casino games operated by studios, which is different from taking bets on official national lotteries; that is not what this page is about.

Keno: pick your numbers, watch the draw

Classic keno uses a board of 80 numbers. The player chooses a set of them, usually between 1 and 10 (some games allow up to 15 or 20), and the game draws 20 numbers. The payout depends on how many chosen numbers are hit, following a pay table that is shown before every round.

• More spots, bigger top prize. Picking ten numbers and hitting all ten pays far more than a small pick, but happens much less often.

Bingo: 75-ball, 90-ball and video bingo

Bingo is the same idea with cards instead of free picks, and each region has its own format.

• 90-ball bingo — the British and European format. Tickets of three rows and nine columns; prizes for one line, two lines and a full house.
• 75-ball bingo — the American format. A 5×5 card with a free centre square, and winning patterns such as lines, corners or shapes.
• Speed bingo — 30 or 36 balls, very short games, designed for mobile.
• Video bingo — the Latin American format, huge in Brazil. The player plays several cards at once against a machine draw of about 30 balls, sees which patterns are close, and can buy extra balls at the end to complete them. Video bingo deserves a special mention for Brazilian and Latin American operators: it grew out of land-based bingo halls and machines, and many players who never touch a slot will spend long sessions on it.

Lottery-style draws and number games

The third member of the family is the lottery-style game: a draw of a few numbers from a larger set, repeated on a fixed schedule, with bets on the numbers, on their sum, on odd or even and so on. Some are pure RNG games; others are filmed draws with real ball machines, broadcast by live studios such as BetGames with its Lucky 5, Lucky 6 and Lucky 7 draws. Video bingo is the one to test carefully: extra balls bought at the end of a round are additional debits on the same round_id, followed by a credit if the extra ball completes a pattern.
